Before I started writing comic books professionally, I created my own , the main differences being that (a) I didn’t get paid and (b) I drew them as well. After years of selling those small press publications through the mail and at various conventions, I decided to compile them into a trade paperback (that I could then sell through the mail and at various conventions).
This involved scanning all the original art from those comics (which, being a pack rat, I managed to save, if not organize), creating the cover in Adobe Photoshop (based on an old drawing from a small press zine) and designing the book itself using InDesign. Also, because I share the self-obsession gene most cartoonists possess, I wrote an introduction, annotations and a “whatever became of” final chapter.
